Day 146 #diabetes

9:00 a.m.
Am I crazy to want to test more often than once a day? I feel as if I'm missing a "big picture" of my control, but my doctor said I only "need" to test once a day. I will think about whether I want to address these feelings with him before my next appointment in November, or wait until November to see if my A1c stays good. If it does not stay as good I can double up my low-carb effort and get it back down (I think, but then again . . . as I understand it Diabetes is a progressive disease and what works now may not always work, so I may be shooting myself int he foot if I wait.)

And worry? Does worry affect my BG? Stress does and I kinda put stress and worry in the same category. My husband says (well, actually, a lot of people say) I worry too much. But how does one make themselves stop - it is a subconscious, automatic reaction I have. Hubby dear found an article in the paper and had me visit their website to take a quiz titled "Are You a World Class Worrier". I took the quiz and got a result of: Worrier With a Plan based on: 69% - Worrier With a Plan; 15% - Worry-free; 15%  World-class Worrier

It said: Your Personality Type: Worrier With a Plan

Worrier With a Plan - 69%
Worrier With a Plan:Well, you're not turning pro just yet, but you've got potential. You can imagine a bad scenario, but you usually have a plan to deal with it. And, that's a great thing. One of the best ways to ease your worries is to take action. Whether it's creating a place to put your keys or calling a lawyer when you when the lottery, a plan of action is a great way to ease your anxiety.

Worry-free - 15%
Worry-free: You could've written that song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." You've got a great ability to imagine the best possible outcome, instead of the worst. Now, occasionally, a little worry is a good thing. (It might be a good idea to check on that elderly relative who doesn't answer the phone, for example.) But, generally your relaxed attitude will probably serve you well.

World-class Worrier - 15%
World-class Worrier: If worrying were a sport, you could turn pro. You've got a long list of worst-case scenarios lined up and ready to go at a moment's notice. This kind of worry can lead to a lot of unnecessary stress. Next time you start to spin out the worst possibilities, stop, take a breath and resolve to get the facts, and then make a plan, instead of worrying first.

So, a Catch-22, if I worry about it I make it worse and if I don't worry about it then I will be worried about not having my numbers in as good a control as I want.

(note my hashtag in the title? I decided to hashtag it since Networked Blogs pushes it to my Twitter for me - the hashtag will make it available to others searching diabetes.)

Day 104

11:40
fasting BG 106 - I will test lunch today, just need to go eat lunch first - LOL. I think I tested the casserole I will eat on another occasion, but I made it with Minute Rice white rice this time rather than brown rice, so it won't hurt to test today.

Day 102

7:45 p.m.
Fasting BG was 106. Really doesn't appear that changing my nighttime dose of Metformin was the answer either. I don't know, I guess I'll have to learn to accept a high post-breakfast number or just accept apples and cheese as an acceptable breakfast.

Today was a less stressful day, but I forgot to set my alarm to test post-lunch so now I will just check post-supper.

Day 42

6:30 p.m.
Another day and both meals were good on the BG numbers. I'm eating some leftover pizza right now so I will test that in an hour & a half and see how much damage leftover frozen pizza is going to do.

I want to get a good bead on what foods affect my BG too much so I can limit more or eliminate completely.

And, I've read that stress can cause the BG to be elevated too so I need to avoid stress as much as I can, but somehow it always finds me. And, sometimes, it is one of those things that there is no black & white solution to. Case in point? My 6 year old granddaughter. I think she is ADHD and she cannot be in the house and there be any peace and quiet. There won't even be a wee bit of quiet until she falls asleep. The noise makes me so edgy. But like I said, no black & white solution since I don't want to say she can never come over just to avoid her noise. I mean, she is my granddaughter, and I do love her dearly, but I just need her to tone down a bit. Fortunately she only visits every other weekend so it is no longer an everyday stress.

Day 30

9:30 p.m.
BG is still looking good. I checked after lunch today to see if a grilled Reuben would have a very bad impact and was delighted to see it did not. Of course it is bad on the fats, but the carbs were good,.

And my legs complained again about me adding that fourth 10 minute free-step. They should be nicer to me tomorrow since they will get an off day.

My head might just chew me out though. My Dear Hubby has been using the same laptop since 2003 and it had gotten to the point that it was slow as molasses - not as slow as cold molasses, that would be the speed of my daughters old desktop that is in my craft-room, but Terry's is as slow as room temp molasses. Well, he ordered a new one and got it this evening and I spent my entire evening getting him set up and installing the Microsoft Office apps. I also pulled his outlook files, desktop images and screen-saver images from his old one to his new one. But, as is always the case, none of that worked quickly or smoothly. Tomorrow I have to transfer his bookmarked/favorites. I just hope that task goes better than any I have done so far. (I plan to swap my daughter's old one out & use my hubby's old one after I get finished moving his stuff)

I was so stressed when I finally  stopped for the night that my neck was in intense pain. Geez, it sucks getting old and having things become dilapidated with the body!!
